BAKERSFIELD - Military investigators first thought a local
Marine killed himself, but now are investigating the case as a possible murder, according to his family.
Lance Cpl. Ramiro Hernandez, 24, was found dead in his room at the Twentynine Palms Marine base in August.
His family says they never believed Hernandez killed himself, and pushed the Naval Criminal Investigative Service to examine
all possibilities. Last week they got the call: NCIS was investigating the case as a murder.
The Marine Corps refused to comment on the case other than to say the investigation was continuing.
Hernandez was supposed to deploy to Iraq next year.
